Dien Bien is a province in the northwest of Vietnam. Where have very beauty imposing natural landscape mixing with very diversified hill tribe's cultures. This nice and quiet city is located in the Muong Thanh valley with a length of about 20 km and 6 km in width. Here also being known as 'Dien Bien basin'. Dien Bien Phu is considered as one of the cities lying on the border, only about 35 km from city center to the border of Laos.




Located in the northwestern part of Vietnam, Dien Bien Province is a famous historical name, which is associated with the greatest victory of Vietnam Army, the Dien Bien Phu Victory. The name Dien Bien came from the time of Thieu Tri – a lord under Nguyen Dynasties with powerful meanings (Dien means “Fortified” and Bien means “Boundary”).

As for tourism, nowadays Dien Bien is also an attractive place due to its history, people, weather and scenes.

About people, Dien Bien Province is the home to more than 500,000 people including Kinh, Thai, Muong and other ethnic minorities in an area of 955.409 ha.

In terms of weather, Dien Bien Province is in the high-mountain tropical monsoon with favorable average temperature (21-23oC) and rainfall (1.700-2.500 mm). The highest rainfall drops on June, July and August. The driest months are December, January and February.

Dien Bien Province is well-known for its heroic history with many relics and monuments. There are some prominent names, such as the Headquarter of Dien Bien Phu Campaign, Dien Bien Phu Museum, Dien Bien Phu Victories Monument, A1 Hills, Pha Din Pass…
